The Red Carrier
On August 3rd there was a hard-fought air battle in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea. In this part of the world RED had suffered some defeats before. The improtant airfields F32, F36 and F37 has been fallen and were used by GOLD forces.
Now RED tried to invade and capture F32/Jerusalem to build up a base for future operations in this area.

The 44th RED Fleet - one of their best carrier-units was sent to this operation. On board of the carrier were many elite air units of the RED AIR FORCE. After they reached their start-point the TBF-bombers, F6F-Hellcat-fighters und F4F-Corsair-fighters started.

Units used by RED:
F6F Hellcat - Fighter
F4F Corsair - Fighter
TBF - Bomber

An unfortunate accident doomed the success of the red operation: GOLD was testing a new Radar-unit. radar specialists were scanning all the time the areas and so they discovered the incoming red planes in an early stage. The Radar-officers started the cooridination of the defense. Fighter units were scrambled and when the red planes reached their target area they faced a strong force of gold interceptors flying at same or higher altitude.
A bloody air battle started. The REDs tried to close F32 but they failed. Also the GOLD pilots tried to break through the red CV but they were intercepted by the excellent red fighter defense before they could reach their target. So the boody battle was going on - and everyone knew that if one side would close the base of the other side, the battle was over.

Units used by GOLD:
Kawasaki ki-61Ic Hien (allied callsign: Tony)
Mitsubishi A6M5 Zero (allied callsign: Zeke)
Messerschmitt Bf109G
Focke Wulf Fw190A
Messerschmitt Bf110

The attack which decided the battle didnt come from the east from the gold F32 base or from the south where GOLD had their F33-base. It came from a total unexpected direction: From northwest !
Unknown for the red command a gold aircraft carrier was operating in this area. A single Nakajima B5N started from this carrier and flew below radar to the red CV. Not a singe red fighter in its flightpath to stop it. So the torpedo bomber was able to reach the red CV and to place its torpedo. The hit of the 800kg-warhead-torpedo caused a catastrophic damage on the red CV: Its capacity went down to 27%.
Nakajima B5N Nate (allied callsign: Kate) - torpedobomber

The reds continued their attacks against F32 and were sending wave after wave - but they couldnt inflict enough damage on the gold field to close it.
Meanwhile a Messerschmitt 410 with a 1000kg-bomb was flying from F33 to the red CV. The plane was operating in an altitude of 3500 meters. Powered by two strong Daimler Benz engines the plane was able to break through the fighter defense and start its dive attack.

The 1000kg bomb hit the CV perfectly. In a huge explosion the already damaged red CV broke apart and sunk within few minutes.
Without their airbase the red planes in air were doomed. The gold forces - supported by fresh units from F32 and F33 - outnumbered them soon and shot down all the red planes.
After the last red plane crushed into the sea the battle of the mediterranean sea ended...

Destruction of the red CV :
First a single B5N started from F42 (GOLD CV). It was armed with a single 800kg-Torpedo.
The plane went down to 50meters  and was so invisible for enemy radar. It continued its flightpath tpo southeast until it reached the red CV.
Bedause RED was never attacked from this direction there were no interceptors.
So the surprise attack was a success and the torpedo hit the CV perfectly.
The huge ship lost  73% of its capacity.

After the succesful torpedo attack a Messerschmitt 410, armed with a 1000 kg bomb, started from F33. The fast plane climbed first to an altitude of 3500 meters and then attacked the CV in a 90 degrees dive attack.

The 1000kg bomb hit its target and destroyed red CV F44.
